Foundations for Music Reading is designed for young string students with 1-2 years of “look-say” note reading experience who are ready to learn the theory foundations necessary to prepare them to be effective orchestra players.

Suitable for class, lesson or home study. Each book includes theory explanations, worksheets and answer keys so that students can work at their own pace.

The curriculum for each instrument is in 3 volumes (about 150 pages per book) containing:

  • explanations of all pitch concepts in the student’s clef (treble, alto or bass)
  • fingerboard charts of the student’s instrument (violin, viola or cello)
  • poems and jingles to make learning fun and memorable
  • skill sheets for speed and accuracy
  • worksheets in a student-friendly font size
  • answer keys so that students and parents can check their work at home
  • performing and rhythm assignments related to the theory topics
  • quizzes for review and reinforcement
